This model is a favorite among Malaysia’s orang Asal ( Indigenous people ) . They usually do not use any other type or shape of parangs. One of the reasons is because of the square tip . This tip is extremely strong and robust, perfectly suited for their use. The Orang Asal use alot of bamboo in their daily lives, therefore whatever cutting tool they use must have top notch performance on bamboo. The flat tip is particularly useful in tight and cramped spaces , like in a bamboo patch.

The square tip also makes this Parang suitable for making bamboo mats , where the bamboo is chopped lengthwise and flattened . The Parang Bentong is also sometimes called Parang Atap.
